Premise:

While saving a missing baby in a convenient store, two superheroes form an unlikely bond.

 

6-sentence story:

1. Mother, Kinetic, and Maximo enter supermarket.

2. Kinetic bumps into Maximo, causing him to drop his eggs.

3. The mother screams - her baby is missing.

4. Maximo and Kinetic both run to the next aisle to change into costume, realize they’re both supers.

5. Both race to find the cry (or laughing ?) baby, trying to sabotage the other

6. Maximo and Kinetic work together to catch the baby, fall into each others arms

Act 1 (beats)

  • Title over supermarket doors

  • Doors open, mother rushes in with baby, doors close

  • Doors open, Maximo walks in, sluggish, with shopping list, doors close

  • Doors open, Kinetic walks in, headphones in, springing and dancing

  • Mother shops in foreground

  • Maximo stands in front of eggs by the produce, uses x-ray vision to look inside

  • Kinetic dances by and bumps into him, tries to help pick them up

  • Frustrated, Maximo reaches back (superhero power)

  • Mother screams, baby gone from cart

Act 2 (beats)

  • Maximo reacts and runs to next aisle

  • Kinetic hesitates a moment, dropping the eggs again, runs to other aisle

  • Run into other aisle to change

  • Realize they’re both superheroes - competition

  • They change

  • Maximo pats Kinetic on the head, takes off

  • Kinetic chases

  • Kinetic trips Maximo

  • Maximo falls, recovers

  • Maximo throws food at Kinetic

  • Kinetic turns back, enjoying the play

  • He tackles Maximo

  • The two tumble and land on top of one another

  • Share a moment looking into each others eyes

  • Baby laughs

  • Baby is on top of nearby shelf, about to fall

  • Maximo helps Kinetic climb to the top

  • Kinetic catches the baby

Act 3 (beats)

  • They both tumble down into each others arms

  • Mother rushes over grabs the baby

  • The two share another look

  • Maximo collects himself

  • Offers handshake

  • Walks out

  • Kinetic Runs out of the store

  • Hands Maximo piece of paper (business card or number) and carton of eggs

Beat Sheet

Act 1- ALONE: EXTERIOR – CITYSCAPE -- ROOFTOPS

·             Maximo (in super suit) on a skyscraper relaxing, observing.

·             POV Maximo - watches couples pass on the street below - he wants that.

·             POV Maximo -  looks at some messages on his phone.

·             Message on phone says “excited to meet you tonight! I’ll have a red flower on my coat!”

·             Maximo hears a cry for help and looks up.

·             Maximo springs into action and flies away.

 

 

Act 2- SAVE THE DAY: EXTERIOR PARK

·             Maximo arrives at the scene of an old woman getting robbed.

·             The thief is running away as Maximo arrives.

·             Silver Streak swoops in, stops the thief before Maximo can react.

·             Silver Streak returns the stolen purse and gives Maximo a cocky grin.

·             Cry for help.

·             Silver Streak rolls his eyes at Maximo and flies away.

·             Maximo is caught off guard by this challenger. He takes a moment to collect himself.

·             Maximo flies away after Silver.

·             Silver Streak arrives at an apartment building on fire - a child is inside.

·             Silver he stops to take in the scene

·             Maximo swoops past, saves the child from the fire.

·             Maximo gives Silver Streak a smug look.

·             Silver is visibly pissed off at being bested.

·             Another cry for help.

·             Both heroes look at each other again before taking off.

·             Both heroes arrive at a part of the city where two trains are speeding towards each other.

·             Heroes sneer at each other again and speed off to the two different trains, refusing to work together. 

·             Heroes land at the front of the respective trains.

·             Heroes try to hold the trains back (think scene from Spider-Man).

·             The trains slow as the characters come face to face.

·             There is a moment where their eyes meet - a spark.

·             They take in each other as the passengers cheer and the sun begins to set

·             Hero’s watches go off with watch alarms flashing DATE! 30 mins

·             Day is saved – heroes save the train together hurriedly to make their important date!

·             Hero’s take off in different directions in the sky.

 

Act 3- DATE: EXTERIOR/INTERIOR RESTURANT

·             Silver lands in a side alleyway, where he pulls out dressy clothes from behind a dumpster.

·             Silver Streak walks to the front of the restaurant from the alley.

·             Silver comes face to face with Maximo (also in plain clothes). They don’t recognize each other as their alter ego/super hero selves.

·             Silver has a red flower in his breast pocket that is the signal that this is Maximo’s date (blind? Tinder?)

·             They sit down for dinner in a booth.

·             Maximo excuses himself to go to the restroom.

·             While Silver Streak waits at the table, an alert plays on the screen about a new accident - a bomb threat with ticking timer that is shown on tv?

·             In the bathroom, Maximo gets the alert on his phone.

·             Heroes need to get out of the date situation ASAP but hesitate.

·             Maximo leaves the restroom and peers around the corner looking at Silver.

·             Silver is looking for Maximo.

·             Maximo takes one last look at Silver at the table.

·             Silver takes one last look around, pulls out money to leave for the bill.

·             Maximo sneaks out the back door of the restaurant. He’s upset but knows he had to do this.

·             Maximo begins to pull out his suit.

·             Maximo hears something shuffle nearby.

·             Maximo looks up - he’s face-to-face with Silver Streak, who came to the alley to change as well.

·             At first, Maximo tries to hide his suit. Silver pulls his suit out from behind his back.

·             They both realize each other’s identity.

·             The two supers swoop in to the bomb threat scene.

·             Maximo grabs the bomb, throws it to Silver in the air who kicks it into the sky, where it blows up.

·             Maximo and Silver fly through the explosion and off into the night sky. They’re playfully messing with each other as they fly through the air 

Act 1 (beats)

·             Introduce Maximo alone

·             Introduce Silver alone

·             Illustrate they each have a date

Act 2 (beats)

·             One big save the day moment that escalates, woman waiting for train, train goes awry and fire?

·             Alarm = date time!

·             Both heroes save the day

Act 3 (beats)

·             Date at restaurant

·             Alert!

·             Reveal and save the day

First half (punchy action style) 
  • one superhero flies in to save the day
  • moves on to next disaster, other superhero intervenes
  • first is frustrated
  • they both try to outdo the other is a series of shots
  • increases in danger every time
  • Becomes playful and flirty  
  • Shots continue to a climax of them meeting face to face and realizing they were into each other
  • both leave, afraid to take the next step
  • either one leaves an item the other picks up (Cinderella) or one notices a feature of the other (earring, tattoo, birthmark) 

Second half (slow and subtle) 

  • super 1 is in a bar, not with anyone 
  • in civilian clothes but still recognizable to audience
  • super 2 sits down and the two start chatting
  • flirting
  • going well until one of the super notices the feature from earlier
  • Confused, not sure what to think
  • Look away at News alert on TV of a new disaster
  • looks back and other guy is gone but something about item from earlier
  • OR both look at each other and make excuses to leave
  •
